Employability

Employability in Scotland
This website has been designed as a practical guide for anyone who is involved in employability. It is intended to help you understand what employability is, your role in it and how to design, deliver and measure the impact of employability approaches.

The Guide provides a range of information, insights and practical examples which will be useful for: funders of employability services; project/service managers from employability, regeneration, health and other related services; and practitioners and frontline workers involved in an array of different services.

Disability

Barrierfree-Recruitment
Website run by the Employers’ Forum on Disability. Provide advice and information on how to make online recruitment accessible. Much of the advice is also applicable to general recruitment practices.

Employers’ Forum on Disability
This is the leading employer led organisation focusing on disability in the workplace. Their website provides information about the organisation, their publications and their events.

RNIB Scotland
A range of advice, information, practical support and training for employers on recruiting and employing blind and partially sighted people.

Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID)
Information, advice and training for employers on how to recruit and retain people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

Epilepsy Action
Provide support, advice and information to people living with epilepsy. Their website has comprehensive guidance for employers on all aspects of employing people with epilepsy.

 

Mental Health

Mindful Employer
This is an employer led initiative which aims to increase awareness of mental health at work. The website provides a range of information and resources concerned with improving mental health in the work place including a voluntary Charter for Employers who are Positive about Mental Health.

Mental Health Foundation
Their website has a wide variety of information and research on all aspects of mental health.

 

Occupational Health

Scottish Centre for Healthy Working Lives
Provides information and advice on occupational health and safety issues in the workplace for SME’s, includes:-

  • A free and confidential advice line
  • A Website with web links and free downloadable material, also an email enquiry service
  • A network of Regional Advisors who can visit workplaces and carry out a free and confidential workplace assessment providing an action plan for development where needed

Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
The HSE is the body responsible for health and safety regulation in the workplace. They provide a range of advice and information for employers on recognising and dealing effectively with workplace stress.

They have developed a set of Management Standards for Work Related Stress that aim to help employers assess the risk of stress in their workplace and to put in place effective stress reduction measures.

Health, Work and Well-being
Health, Work and Well-being is a Government-led initiative to protect and improve the health and well-being of working age people. Founded on a growing evidence base that working is good for health, it brings together employers, unions, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to promote the positive links between health and well-being and help more people with health conditions to find and stay in employment.

Equality & Diversity

The Equality and Human Rights Commission
This newly established Commission has merged the work of the Disability Rights Commission, the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Commission for Racial Equality. The website has a wide range of advice and information on all aspects of equality and diversity in the workplace.

ACAS
Information, advice and training on all aspects of employment relations and employment law. The website has a specific section covering equality and diversity which provides guidance and information on the legislation and good practice.

Age Positive
Guidance and information about the law and good practice in terms of age and employment.

 

Ex-Offenders

Apex Scotland
Advice and training on best practice in the recruitment of ex-offenders and understanding the conviction information provided through the Disclosure system.

 

Parents

Scottish Childcare
Information about childcare and pre-school education services throughout Scotland. Provides links to all Childcare Information Services in each Local Authority area and has the facility to search for provider details by local area.

 

Business Support & Information

Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)
The professional body for those involved in managing and developing staff. Their website provides a range of information and resources on recruiting and retaining staff, employee relations, staff development, and employment law. There is also a section on diversity and equality good practice and legislation.

Learn Direct Scotland for Business
Provide SMEs with advice and information about training and skills development for their workforce. Their services include:

  • Providing access to expert advisers who will help assess skills needs and identify training solutions
  • Sourcing training to meet business goals and pressures, with an emphasis on short, “bite-size” chunks
  • Offering online training that can be done in the workplace
  • Providing access to a range of free downloadable resources

Futureskills Scotland
This is part of the Scottish Government and provides information and analysis of the Scottish labour market at both a national and local level.
