It will help if you are familiar with the requirements of the employability criteria and able to provide employers with, or be able to signpost them to, effective sources of support.

This means that you should be familiar with:

• Best practice in recruitment and selection and how employers can make their current procedures more accessible.
• The services provided to employers by Jobcentre Plus. Click here for more information about Jobcentre Plus.
• The range of local employability providers and the type of clients they work with.
• The range and type of pre-employment programmes that employers could become involved in.
• The Disability Symbol and what employers need to do in order to achieve it. Click here for more information about the Disability Symbol.

Your starting point could be to talk to the employer and find out how they currently recruit new staff and to identify any policies and procedures that they already have in place.

You may find that some business are already some way to achieving the award and do not need to make many changes to their procedures. For example, if they already advertise vacancies and recruit staff through Jobcentre Plus they will have satisfied two of the requirements of the criteria.
