Strategies and procedures to enhance the retention and development of staff can make a significant contribution to a number of key aspects of the Healthy Working Lives Award. In particular, to the criterion concerned with supporting staff attendance and creating mentally healthy workplaces.
For Example:
- Implementing procedures to support staff with health problems will help to ensure that the issues faced by new employees are recognised and supported as well as contributing to the ‘Supporting staff attendance’ element of the Award.
- Providing awareness training for staff about mental health issues will help to ensure that they understand the difficulties that may be faced by new employees and increase the support available to them as well as contributing to the ‘Mentally healthy workplaces’ element of the Award.
- Providing managers with training on improving mental health in the workplace will help them to be better equipped to provide support to new employees and to the ‘Mentally health workplaces’ (additional criterion) element of the Award.
