When approaching recruitment issues with employers and clients, it is important to make sure that everyone is prepared for the process and have all the information that they need for it to be successful.

Remember that all recruitment is can be risky, especially for SMEs. Your service should offer something which is about reducing that risk not increasing it.

The issues you should consider include:

  • Making sure the client is prepared for the interview process and that they understand what is likely to happen and the kind of questions they may be asked.
  • Talking to employers about any adjustments that may be necessary for people with disabilities and, if necessary, referring them to sources of support with this such as Access to Work.
  • Telling the employer about any particular issues that a client might have and what might make the interview process easier for them (e.g. a client with learning difficulties might need more time to answer questions during the interview). However, you must remember that this is about a balance and the client should always decide who is told what and when they are told.
